Origins and Genetics

Blue Velvet has been preserved in our genebank for many years and is the sister strain of our renowned Blueberry. This hybrid is composed of 50% indica and 50% sativa, though the indica genetics dominate and are more pronounced. Its lineage traces back to Purple Thai, a cross between Oaxaca Gold and a unique Chocolate Thai, combined with a powerful Afghani Indica. In the 1990s, Dutch Passion collaborated with the original Blueberry breeder, introducing the Blueberry family to Europe for the first time. Blue Velvet was developed using original seed stock from that historic breeding project.

Growth and Yield

Blue Velvet delivers a fast-acting, smooth high that is both velvety and potent. Indoors, she offers good yields despite her compact size, typically reaching heights of 50–60cm, making her ideal for SOG (sea-of-green) setups. She flowers in about 8 weeks indoors and is ready for harvest by the end of September or early October outdoors. In favorable climates, she can grow up to 2–3 meters tall. She is also easy to clone and can handle high nutrient levels without issue.

Appearance and Effects

Blue Velvet often displays striking blue hues, especially when grown in cooler indoor conditions or outdoors. She produces a sturdy main cola covered in abundant resin. Users report an uplifting and euphoric high, accompanied by a fruity, floral flavor profile. As an old classic and connoisseur favorite, Blue Velvet is known for its potency and is highly recommended for experienced growers and consumers alike.
