Overview

Red Bottoms Feminized is a 60% indica strain developed for the Sensi Seeds Breeding Grounds project by the team at Ziplock Seeds in their outdoor breeding compound in Hawaii. This strain was created by crossing Sensi Seeds’ Maple Leaf Indica, a direct descendant of Afghan landrace strains, with a cross of Gas Drops and Deep Space Candy, incorporating award-winning genetics from two of Ziplock Seeds’ classic offerings.

Growing Characteristics

Red Bottoms Feminized plants are tall and can be challenging for indoor growers with limited headroom. However, their sativa-like frame makes them suitable for advanced growing techniques, ideal for experienced growers looking to maximize yield from a limited number of plants. These plants thrive in colder, drier climates and have an elegant, balanced frame with long lateral branches and excellent internodal spacing, promoting good airflow and light penetration.

Indoor growers should expect these plants to stretch significantly in the early weeks of flowering and may need to initiate flowering earlier than usual. The slender branches can become weighed down by dense, heavy buds, requiring extra support as harvest approaches. Indoors, these plants can reach heights of up to 160 cm and yield between 460-650 grams per square metre over a 60 to 65-day flowering cycle. Outdoors, they can grow to 200-300 cm and produce up to 550-750 grams per plant.

The buds are large, well-formed, and richly colored with abundant, sticky trichomes, making them ideal for extracts. However, the large number of leafy, sticky buds can make trimming a time-consuming task. Their long internodal spacing, rapid vegetative growth, and long branches make them well-suited for screen of green (SGROG) or mainlining techniques. They are also suitable for lillipopping, though extreme pruning is not necessary due to their stretched, lanky frame, which allows for good light penetration and airflow. However, these characteristics make them a poor fit for sea of green (SOG) setups.

Sensory Profile

During growth, Red Bottoms Feminized emits a complex aroma combining gassy fuel notes from the Gas Drop parent, sweet, fresh fruit from the Deep Space Candy lineage, and subtle hashy spiciness, earthy undertones, and sugary maple notes from the Maple Leaf Indica genetics. The dried buds offer an enticing blend of sweet melon and dessert wine, with detectable notes of zesty citrus and gassy, candy-sweet undertones.

The flavor is equally complex, beginning with the sweet taste of fresh melon on the inhale and finishing with a deep wine-like note, accented by hints of gas and fruit candy.

Effects

Despite its tall, sativa-like growth pattern, Red Bottoms Feminized delivers distinctly indica effects. It begins with a softly euphoric uplift, followed by a deep, soothing body buzz. The experience starts bright and creative, gradually transitioning into a calm, focused relaxation, making it ideal for sensory experiences or simple relaxation.

Interesting Fact

The name of this strain is a nod to the song “Bodak Yellow” by Cardi B, which was playing during the first harvest sampling. In the song, she references “red bottoms,” referring to the signature red soles of Christian Louboutin high heels. Both Gas Drop and Deep Space Candy are award-winning strains created by Ziplock Seeds.
